The Church

We tried several churches, but none of them felt right.  We were looking for a church where people showed joy to be there.  We had no idea what type of service we had attended, but guessed it must have been gospel because of the lovely songs they sang.  But Gospel churches aren't listed in the telephone directory so we asked the police if they knew what type of church sang gospel music.  They weren't sure but suggested baptist.  I can see the funny side of this now but at the time we didn't know how else we could find out.Painting of Christchurch Priory Church through the ruin

Two weeks later a list of churches came in the post from Australia.  Burton Community Church was on the list, so the following Sunday we attended their service.  We knew right away that this was the right church; the people loved Jesus, their pastor and each other.  They made us feel so welcome.  Duncan, the pastor, said there were churches nearer to us that he could recommend and gave us the telephone number of one of them.  However he also said that should we decide to worship at Burton we would always be welcome.  We lost the telephone number Duncan had given us, and because of the way we felt decided God had already found the right church for us.
